What You Will Be Doing
As a home care assistant in Cheltenham, you will visit clients in their own homes, helping them live independently and with dignity. Every day is different, and every visit matters.
Personal Care Support
You will help clients with washing, dressing, bathing, and grooming. This is the most personal part of the role, and it requires patience, kindness, and respect. We train you thoroughly so you feel confident from day one.
Our person-centred care plans are tailored to each individual. You will learn their preferences, routines, and the little things that make them comfortable. It is care that genuinely feels good to do.
Companionship and Social Activities
Loneliness affects thousands of older people across Cheltenham. As a carer, you will often be the highlight of someone’s day. That might mean a chat over a cup of tea, a walk to Pittville Park, helping with a jigsaw puzzle, or simply sitting together and listening.
Companionship is not an add-on — it is at the heart of everything we do. Many of our carers say the relationships they build are the most rewarding part of the job.
Medication Reminders
You will help clients take their medication on time and in the right doses. We provide full medication administration training as part of your induction, so you will feel confident managing this responsibility safely.
This is a crucial part of domiciliary care and one that families rely on. You will be supported by clear care plans and a management team available 24/7 if you ever have questions.
Light Housekeeping and Meals
From preparing nutritious meals to keeping living spaces clean and safe, you will help maintain a comfortable home environment. Whether it is making a favourite recipe, doing the hoovering, or changing bed linen, these everyday tasks make a huge difference to someone’s quality of life.
You will also help with shopping, either accompanying clients to local Cheltenham shops or picking up essentials on their behalf.
Pay, Benefits and Perks
We believe carers deserve proper recognition. That is why we are a Real Living Wage Employer — not just meeting the government minimum, but paying what people actually need to live on.
Your pay and benefits package includes:
- Real Living Wage — guaranteed, not the bare minimum
- Paid travel time between client visits
- Mileage reimbursement for every mile driven
- 28 days paid holiday (pro rata, including bank holidays)
- Workplace pension scheme
- Statutory sick pay from day one
- DBS check fully funded — no cost to you
- Blue Light Card eligibility — thousands of discounts at major retailers
- Refer a Friend bonus — earn extra for recommending great people
> “The pay is fair and you actually feel valued here. I have worked for agencies where you were just a number — SW Care is completely different.” — James, Senior Carer, GL51
Flexible hours that work for you. We offer mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Whether you want full-time hours or need to fit work around school runs, studies, or other commitments, we will work with you to find the right schedule.
Training and Career Development
You do not need any qualifications or previous care experience to join us. We provide everything you need to start and grow your career in care.
Your training journey includes:
- Comprehensive induction programme — your first two weeks are fully paid classroom and shadow training
- The Care Certificate — 15 standards covering everything from safeguarding to communication, completed in your first 12 weeks
- Dementia Friends training — delivered in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society
- Moving and handling certification
- Medication administration training
- First aid qualification
- NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care — fully funded while you work
- NVQ Level 3 — for those ready to progress into senior or specialist roles
All training is delivered through our Flourish learning platform and in-person sessions right here in Cheltenham. You are paid for every hour of training — it is never unpaid or done in your own time.
Career progression is real here. Many of our senior carers and team leaders started as care assistants with no previous experience. We promote from within and invest in people who want to grow.
> “I started with zero experience and SW Care put me through my Care Certificate, then my NVQ Level 2. Now I am a Senior Carer and I am studying for my Level 3. They genuinely invest in you.” — Priya, Senior Carer, Cheltenham
Why Carers Choose SW Care
There are plenty of care assistant jobs in Cheltenham. So why do carers choose us — and stay with us?
We are a Top 20 Home Care Group. In 2025, we were named in the Top 20 Home Care Groups nationally by homecare.co.uk. That recognition comes from the families we support and the standard of care our team delivers every day.
We are CQC Rated Good. The Care Quality Commission has rated us Good across all areas. That means you are joining a company with proper standards, robust policies, and genuine oversight. You can be proud of where you work.
We are a Real Living Wage Employer. We do not just talk about valuing carers — we pay them properly. The Real Living Wage is independently calculated based on what people actually need to live on, and we are committed to it.
We are a local Cheltenham company. Our office is at Harley House, 29 Cambray Place, right in Cheltenham town centre. You will not be dealing with a faceless agency based hundreds of miles away. Our management team is local, accessible, and available 24/7.
You will be part of a supportive team. Every carer has a named manager, regular supervisions, and access to round-the-clock support. We run team socials, celebrate achievements, and genuinely look out for each other. This is a family, not just a workforce.
We welcome everyone. Our team is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming. Whether you are 18 or 65, changing careers or returning to work, from any background or walk of life — if you have compassion and a willingness to learn, we want to hear from you.

Flexible Working Patterns
We know that one schedule does not suit every carer. That is why we build rotas around your availability, not the other way around.
Working patterns we offer in Cheltenham:
- Morning rounds (7 AM to 12 PM). Personal care, breakfast support, and medication. Ideal if you want afternoons free.
- Afternoon rounds (12 PM to 5 PM). Lunchtime visits, companionship, and light housekeeping. Works well alongside morning commitments.
- Evening rounds (5 PM to 10 PM). Dinner, medication, and bedtime support. Suits people who are busy during the day.
- Weekend-only shifts. Perfect for those with weekday jobs, studies, or family commitments.
- Full-time hours. A mix of rounds across the week with a predictable, guaranteed-hours contract.
We match you with clients close to your home postcode in Cheltenham. That means less time driving and more time caring. Paid travel time and mileage are included for every journey between visits.
Our scheduling team works with you directly. If your circumstances change, we adjust. School holidays, exam periods, family events — we plan around your life.
Community and Team Culture
Care work can sometimes feel solitary. At SW Care, we make sure it never does. You are part of a close-knit Cheltenham team that looks out for each other.
How we build our team community:
- Regular team meetups. We hold team gatherings where you can meet colleagues, share experiences, and catch up with your manager face-to-face.
- Recognition and rewards. We celebrate milestones, nominate Carer of the Month, and acknowledge great work publicly. Your efforts are seen and valued.
- WhatsApp team groups. Carers stay connected throughout the day. You can ask questions, share tips, or just have a chat between visits.
- Annual awards event. We hold a yearly celebration to recognise long service, outstanding care, and personal achievements within the team.
- Open-door management. Our office at Harley House in Cheltenham town centre is always open. You can drop in for a coffee, raise a concern, or just say hello.
We have a 9.8 out of 10 rating on homecare.co.uk from 121 verified family reviews. That score reflects our carers as much as our management. Families trust us because our team delivers consistent, high-quality care day after day.
> “The team culture is what keeps me here. We have a WhatsApp group where everyone helps each other. The managers actually listen. It feels like a real team, not just a job.” — Amy, Care Assistant, GL52
What Makes SW Care Different for Carers
Cheltenham has several care companies recruiting. So why do carers stay with us longer and rate us higher?
We do things differently:
- Proper induction, not just a quick orientation. Your first two weeks are fully paid training with classroom sessions, shadow shifts, and practical assessments. You do not start solo visits until you feel ready.
- Consistent clients. We match you with the same clients each week. You build real relationships instead of visiting strangers every shift.
- Realistic call times. We do not schedule 15-minute visits. Every call has enough time for you to deliver proper care without rushing.
- Management that listens. Our office is in Cheltenham town centre. Your manager knows your name and your clients. If you raise a concern, it gets addressed.
- No unpaid extras. Travel time is paid. Training is paid. Your DBS check is free. We do not expect you to absorb costs that should be on us.
We hold ourselves to the same standards we ask of our carers. That is how we earned CQC Rated Good across all areas, a Top 20 national ranking, and a 9.8 out of 10 family rating from 121 verified family reviews.
> “I have worked for two other agencies in Cheltenham. The difference at SW Care is night and day. Proper training, proper pay, and a manager who actually picks up the phone.” — Laura, Care Assistant, Pittville
